Slaying The Beast!

“To slay the beast, one must first recognize the beast!”

This statement is very similar to a poster that once hung on the bulletin board of a military unit that I was affiliated with. The only difference is that that particular poster read: “KNOW YOUR ENEMY!” This, of course, is not to say (nor imply) that, like (Tail Gunner and Senator) Joseph McCarthy, the enemy (or adversary) is always well defined!

“So what (exactly) is an enemy?” Is he the despotic entity that has sworn an oath to see us destroyed at any cost, or is he the creature that has aligned itself in party factions, right or wrong? Factions that place a vested agenda above the common good and need? For it is my view that national unity must trump anything as petty and destructive as political agenda. To quote one of our Founders: “We must all hang together, or we will most certainly all hang separately!

Many a past super power, similar to the Ancient Greek, the Egyptians, the Romans, the Brits, the Soviets, and yes, even the nephews and nieces of our own Uncle Sam, have (at times) let political arrogance over-shadow our common sense. All have refused to accept the realization of their own mortality. “And mores’ the shame, for pride inevitably goeth before a fall!”

The very first axiom to immortality as a nation, is a realization is that: “We are not invulnerable to the very same factions that we escaped from, some 231 years ago!” And to survive with our ideals intact, we must first continue to adhere to those sacred ideals that were envisioned well over two centuries ago.

“And most of all, we must not only beware of the Beast - we must continue to keep his henchmen under tight control, no matter from whence they spring!”
