Yeah Boats, alot of the old Air Craft Squadrons are now sadly gone. VAW-122 E-2c's, VS-28 S3A's, VA-176 A6's to name a few.
Some of this is due to change in the A/C's mission. The F-18's introduction to the fleet put the writing on the wall for the A6 and A7, just like the F14 meant the end of the F4. The mission of the S3 changed drastically from sub hunter/killer to cargo hauler.
Damned shame. I understand how other guys missed the Viggie leaving the fleet. I did get to see some F8's before they were done away with.
All in all I'm glad to have served in the time frame I did. (early 80's) The fleet had some really great aircraft at that time.

Yea, we had A3D's, A4's, F8's and two squardons of Sky Raider's.
Not counting the Willy Fud and our five helo's. A4's were like little mosquitoes. Sky Raiders look the most deadly when loaded up and the F8's with their sidewinder's didn't look too shabby either.

Pitch and catch that's all we did. It was pretty interesting and lots of adrenalin flowing on the flight deck

My husband's reserve mine unit is in the process of going away too. Momau 4(?) will be no more. I'm not sure of the number anymore. They change so often from Momau to Momag and back again and they were a 3 and a 4.

But it is sad that this little family is breaking up. These guys have been together nearly they whole careers. Some like my husband started out active but others jumped right into the reserves and have served faithfully for 15, 20, 26, & 30 years!

I'm really going to miss the guys...heck we rescheduled our wedding just so they could all be there!

Boats, I can't believe that the Navy, wants to get smaller, especially now when our nation is at war.

We may be small but we are wound tight! The weapons are more compact do more damage and can be delivered far out to see without loss of life or equipment.

Its rare to have a long procrastinated ground war but we will still have our carriers for close in support and our escorts to cover the big ships.

The terms small isn't correct maybe more compacted and a little more state-of-the-art. Less sure but much more efficient do to science and development processes.

I'd hate to have to fight our Navy - they got too many things in their arsenal.

Well I did 12 and they were well spent. I learned alot from the Navy and I met some great guys and saw many things. I've learned that this is still the greatest country in the world.

Our people don't really know just how well they have it here. The majority of the world's peoples are really suffering - much from their own doing but primarily they need a better education.

I don't want to get into the religious issues but as long as the ignorant remain that way they are easily led by the those who know they can stir them like cattle.

These are the people I dislike - those who would ruin an entire nation because of some zealous or medieval cause.
