Cuts
Over here in the UK they are, by 2008, cutting the Royal Air Force down to 42,000, they are also looking at getting that figure down to 31,000.
At that level you would only fill one-half on a UK Football (Soccer) Stadium. What is the current size of the US army?

This is just the army now, but the last figure I saw put it at just under 500,000. At the end of the Cold War, the Army had around 750,000. The main problem I see with the current size of the Army is that it is not big enough to handle the War on Terror effectively. We need more men and women.
I would like to say to all the folks in the UK, thank you for sticking with us. Always remember that Blair is taking the advice of Sir Winston Churchill in sticking with America. We have many over here who think that we need France. History proves that we don't as they could not hold against the Germans twice in fifty years without your help and ours. My hope is that the Chirac government will not win re-election and that the French people will choose a more agreeable government.

A-Brat...
Didn't do your poll,...since no one could possibly know what size Army is currently needed. Naturally civilian politicians know exactly how many are needed,...AS USUAL.
Maybe if we ever found out how large our enemy's forces actually are,...We might then figure out a reasonable guesstimate for how many forces We need (or not)? Hell, and as things stand now, We don't even know how many enemy are right within our borders,...nor how many more are waltzing right into America each and every day, to join their brother and sister terrorists. Get that enemy tally right (both at home and abroad), and then the numbers of American Forces needed can be determined right down to a platoon. Neil |

Excellent observations and insight. This is something I should have considered when setting up the poll. We do need to know the strengths of our enemy's forces.

Has anyone been watching any of the BRAC hearings?
Seems to me that it is mainly the military who are asking for the reductions, and that there is an endless line of elected officials from each State up there giving reasons NOT to reduce the force levels. |
