Default drag racing of old

Back when I was drag racing, I watched many that are now team owners do there thing on the quater mile.
Billy meyer. His dad was a Multy millionair and bought him a race car. Billy went out and woooped the big name guys. Next month "HOT ROD" did an artical on him, it started, "who the hell is Billy Meyer and where does he get off?"
Billy later bought IHRA.

Ron,

Great pictures. I was a Sox and Martin fan, Big Daddy, and Bob Glidden. Used to love to watch and participate. Don't have a strip nearby....haven't watched it live since probably 85'. You don't have an old Sox and Martin or any of the the other guys I mentioned, picture to post...do ya? Figure you would have also been a Glidden fan.

Default Used to Drag race a lot

When I was a teenager. My older brother james and his brother in law Charlie Smith raced pro in the early 60's. I got to drive the chase car. We won the winter nationals in 62 or 63 in AA/Altered with a 23 bucket T named Plain Vanilla. Had a 327 FI chevy and we won with a time of somewhere around 10 + and I think the speed was 147. Been 40 + years ago and don't remember exactly.

You were involved with Plain Vanilla? That car was bad ass, I was racing every week in a stock class, I got to know some of the people with 'Wild Willy Bosh' AA/FA, Fire burnouts etc. I seen him run over his crank shaft. Byron Drag strip,
Met Garlets in Columbus Georga at the strip, He just got beat by Koletta.
Am going tomarrow, (sat)
