Plane departing from Nellis Air Force base crashes in Las Vegas neighborhood

May 24 (UPI) -- An aircraft departing from Nevada's Nellis Air Force Base crashed into a Las Vegas neighborhood on Monday, military officials said.

Nellis officials tweeted that a "contractor-operated" aircraft took off from the base and crashed outside its southern edge at about 2:30 p.m. local time.

"We are aware of an incident involving an aircraft associated with Nellis Air Force Base," the base said. "We will provide updates as they become available.

Multiple federal and local first responders were deployed to the scene.

The crash was reported in a neighborhood where homeowner Jose Villanueva told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that the plane came down between his home and the property next door, belonging to his uncle.

Villanueva said no one in his home was injured.
