Question Angry and Questions for ya'll

We went and did our normal Memorial day thing. Flowers and flags. We have two cemeteries here. One of them actually have the respect to put flags out on Vet's graves. The other one makes flags available but the family has to request them and put them on themselfs. Allot of these guys don't have family around anymore that remember them. Just made me so damed angry to see all of these Veterans burried and forgotten by so many.

My question is though, is there any way to form a volunteer group to place them? How would I go about that? I am dumb when it comes to this. I assume we'd have to put them down and take them up as well of course. Would I contact the local VFW posts or what? The cemetery? I figured ya'll would know more about this than me.

The Boy Scouts do it here. The Veteran's organizations do nothing. I guess their bars are still open.

A 9 year old boy in a town here in MA noticed that many veterans graves in a local cemetery didn't have flowers, so he went around collecting donations and bought flowers to plant at the graves. The cemetery officials said that he couldn't as it was their policy that only relative could do that.

It made the news and the uproar was heard loud and long. Some Marine veterans told the officials that the flowers would be planted with or without their permission (if you know what I mean). The officials relented and said the boy could plant the flowers but they had to be dug up by today. On Saturday, those Marines, in full dress blues, accompanied the boy on his mission and the flowers were planted.

The boy received so many monetary contributions that he donated to extra money to veterans groups. Hand Salute to that boy and those Marines for standing up to a ridiculous bureaucracy and forcing them to back down.

Default Wimberley TX tradition

For years, our VFW Post 6441 has place American flags on all veteran's grave sites on the Sunday preceding Memorial Day, and then retrieves them before sundown on the following day. We had a brief ceremony at Wimberley cemetery yesterday morning, attended by several city dignitaries, most of the Post, and some local citizens as well. As the post commander-elect, I have promised to maintain and even expand this beautiful practice, involving the Boy Scout troop that we sponsor as one of their civic projects. I reminded the attendees that Memorial Day is not a day for special sales at the local shopping malls, not another excuse for federal and other governmental employees to have a 3-day weekend at taxpayers' expense, and not another reason for NASCAR fans to get together and swill kegs of beer. If we forget the reasons for celebrating this Holy Day, we may forget what price was paid for us to celebrate it in the first place.

Anger is one of the best motivational aspects of life. If you are so angered by this lack of caring, then please take the steps to correct it.
Make the phone calls needed to prevent this from happing again.
Contact the "people" mentioned here. Ask your employer if they would buy the Flags needed. Local Civic Centers, Chamber of Commerce, Rotary, Lions and Elks Clubs are also good places to start.
Set up collection cans, in various areas. The propose to collect funds needed to buy flags. Get your local newspapers involved, at least have them run a short article or publish a photo when the group puts the Flags on the graves.
Make sure you ask for assistance well in advance so the word will get out!
