Default Ron's cats

Breaking news on the tube yesterday told that southwest Houston (39Mto39G's AO) is being overrun with "owner-free felines." They wouldn't say "stray cats." They estimated over 200 cats in one area alone. A wildlife service was called in with live-catch traps. The cats are too wild to put up for adoption. Ron, you need to tighten up a notch over there.

Oh yeah Ron, First Colony Mall was packed like sardines.

You'd probably do it for free.

Jane

They're stray wild cats. What about all the native reptiles and birds they destroy.

Feral is feral. Lots of animals go feral and have to be put down or culled

Talking Rabbits in the Puget Sound

Many years ago some fellow decided to raise rabbits on some of the smaller Islands in the Puget Sound. The business didn't work out so he released all the rabbits to fend on their own. The rabbits did very well. They use to have an open season on those rabbits, no limit. These are domestic rabbits gone wild. I had a friend(s) who owned some summer property on one of the Islands. They had to put cage fencing all around their place, the bottom was sitting in cement and the fence was four feet high, so they could grow a small summer garden. Some of the rabbits still found a way to get in. They hated rabbits, for the local property owners you could trap and kill rabbits year round. On some of the more isolated Islands the game department would have an open season no limit. Several of my friends use to go up and fill their freezers with rabbit meat. They'd use a salmon fishing net, and a spot light. Spot light them, sneak up and net them and knock them in the head. They had one guy who stayed at base camp, all he did was gut and skin and put them on ice while the other two hunted. They'd often take 100 plus rabbits out in one night of hunting.

I never hunted them. But, I did eat quite a few Rabbit.

I love eating rabbit. Once upon a time it was considered poor man's meat. That's when they were in plague proportions in Oz. Our problem started when the British released a few pair for the foxes they released to eat. Both ended up as bad as pesky cats in the wild. But to buy a pair of rabbits now to eat costs mega-bucks. I did enjoy eating dog when I was in Vietnam too.
