I go with the P-51 even though a late comer when the Germans saw them escorting the bomber groups over Germany they knew the gig was over.

For actual effect on the war I'd have to go with the B-17.

I'll take the men and women who were behind the wheel of any of the flying fighting machines. The will and the strength to fight on even when the odds weren't in their favor they stuck to it and took the fight out of the bad guys.

Default Situational...all gave some

In their darkest hour: The Spitfire; Style, grace and pure speed plus agility.

Hitting back and holding down the fort; The Pug Ugly Jug, P-47 ?Lightening?, flying fury with surprising agility and speed coupled with superrior firepower.

The final Victory maker; The P-51 ?Mustang? with Rolls Royce Merlin Engine, Undisputed King of the Sky.
