Default Fat Diet or Fat Politicians?

In the latest example of the Mommy State ? the "this is for your own good? school of government ? a Chicago official has proposed banning restaurants from using oils that contain trans fats. Under the proposal from Edward Burke, who has served on the Chicago City Council since 1969, restaurants that fail to remove "artificial trans fats? from their kitchens would be fined $200 to $1,000 a day.

Oils with trans fats ? mostly the partially hydrogenated variety ? have been tied to a number of health problems, including clogged arteries and heart attacks, the New York Times reports. And Chicago was recently named America?s "fattest city? by Men?s Fitness magazine.

The ban on oils with trans fat would be the first adopted by a major U.S. city, although restaurants in the town of Tiburon, Calif., have voluntarily given up the oils.

Seeking to justify the ban, Burke said: "If it were just about adults, I would say, ?O.K., we should butt out.? But youngsters are assuming diets that are unhealthy.? Nevertheless, Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley believes a trans fat ban is one rule too many. He said: "Is the City Council going to plan our menus??

[Maybe we'd all be better off if we just banned fat politicians!]

Default BTW I am against the Government Banning legal products

Well, they banned smoking in Restaurants so now the Health Nuts want to Tax Cokes and ban Trans Fat, next thing will be MSG and all them Chinese takeout places will be in big Trouble. If the Mayor of Chicago is so worried about Trans Fats in Children's food then eliminate them in Schools first.Let the Buyer beware for the Restaurant Industry and those who care will eat at Non Trans Fats places and those who want to eat elsewhere should have that choice! Not to be forced by the Government "That would be tyranny" not Democracy of our Constitutional Republic.

I dare say that fast foods, chips etc. are universally taxed in the US. As well they should be. Thisisn't a mtter of taxation, but some politician that thinks he's a nuturitional expert or a dictator, or both. Where I live, there is no police or anybody else holding a gun to anybody's head, forcing them to eat junk food. It's simply a matter of more and more government intrusion into people's private lives. And guess which political party is pushing this further erosion of persoanl liberties? Hmmmm?

Default Oh, wait a minute?

Let me guess?

You must mean THAT political partty!

You mean 'personal liberties' like allowing family members who've been given the power of attorney or told by their loved ones to stop all efforts to keep them alive by respirators and feeding tubes when there is CLEAR & COMPELLING evidence that their loved ones are in fact either brain dead or nothing more than a vegtable??

Remember 'Terry Schiavo'??

I'll give you a 'hint'................it starts with a great big ole "R"...!

Default I meant to say Excise Tax

They have a Sales Tax on them here also. But, the Health Nazis want to put a tax on Cokes just like the one on Gas, Beer, and Tobacco. That way the State can get an extra 50 cents a can and raise it any time they want more tax revenue. They the Politicians can claim they are doing it for the welfare of the CHILDREN but its just another excise tax to line their coffers. They have to start taxing Cokes soon since people are starting to quit smoking and they don't buy as much gasoline now and they need a new source of Taxes to pay to fill in the pot holes and for education too.
