New Delhi: Germany on Friday said banning Jamaat-ud-Dawa was not enough and Pakistan must take more steps to uproot the entire
Terror network from its soil.
“Germany thinks that sometimes it is not sufficient to just prohibit an organisation. You need to do more than that. You have to stop terrorists from operating from your territory,” German Federal Minister of Interior Wolfgang Schauble, who is visiting India, told reporters here.
Schauble was invited by the Indian Government for discussions in the wake of the terror strikes in Mumbai, in which three Germans were also killed. Schauble on Friday met Home Minister P Chidambaram and
National Security Advisor M K Narayanan and offered Germany’s help in putting up a united front against terrorism.
Schauble informed his Indian counterpart about the capabilities of the German police and the anti-terror mechanisms put in place in his country. He said if the Indian side ‘demands or desires’ any assistance, Germany would only be very happy to share all relevant information.
Schauble said the focus of the global community was to encourage Pakistan to act decisively against terrorist elements in that country. Asked whether the Pakistan Government had the capability to take such decisive measures, he said one could only be hopeful.
“In some countries, it is quite imaginable that the Government is not fully in control over parts of its intelligence agencies. I know it is a difficult situation for Pakistan but there is no other alternative,” he said.
