GREAT LAKES, Ill. (Aug. 2, 2018)

180802-N-IK959-1051 GREAT LAKES, Ill. (Aug. 2, 2018) Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) midshipman candidates fight a fire in a simulated shipboard compartment in the USS Chief Recruit Fire Fighter Trainer at Recruit Training Command (RTC). More than 65 young men and women entering their freshman year of the NROTC program participated in a two-week pilot program designed to provide standardized entry-level militarization and prepare new NROTC midshipmen with a common training orientation. USS Chief was used as part of their final evaluation, during which they had to complete several tasks in different RTC training facilities in a timely manner, working as a team. The indoctrination serves as a standard training launch point for the future naval and Marine Corps officers, and for the development of their character and professional competence.
