Saying things like that in a public forum is about the cheaperst shot I can imagine. To call you an asshole would do a great disservice to all the honest rectums of the world.

Yawn. I don't care if you call me names. The point I was making is that the afore mentioned person using my dead uncle in any sort of point is a huge disservice to that person, who detested my father. And it's all right to call people an asshole in a "public forum," but I can't defend my family? I see. And trust me, if I wanted to "drag his name through the mud," I would have already -- but I haven't said a word. Every comment about children, about family, about morality, etc, that's his business. I come to this board strictly to hear the stories about Vietnam that I will be telling my own children when they want to know about their grandfather. But my uncle Doug? No, that's where I draw the line.

You can think whatever you want to about my motivations and character. You don't know dick about me and I don't have to defend myself to the likes of you.

Well, you got me there. I was trying to get you to get angry and get in a fight with me and get kicked off the site. OK here is how it is: This site was created for vets to be able to express their feelings and thoughts without flamers attacking tnem. Is Andy an asshole? We are all assholes. War doesn't make nice people. If you were kind of nice before going to war you come back meaner. If you were mean before you went you come back even meaner than before. There are some exceptions and I think that depends on whether they have innate character that is exposed as they interact with war. James comes to mind. I am usually considered a sort of good guy here but I have felt that if they knew everything I have done in my life that would change. Look at how many divorces these guys have had. It would be naive to think it was always the spouse's fault. I am lucky to have a wife that has stood by me all these years but let me tell you, I have put her through hell. If they would do it, I could get a whole chorus of people who despise me and could accuse me of many things, even some pretty serious crimes. A lot of times this whole site is just many of us trying to get back some decency and morality we have lost. Part of that is allowing ourselves to grieve some of our guys we let down and lost. Time is growing short for most of us. We have already outlived our life expectancy (54). When we are gone those left with issues with us will be left holding the bitterness bag. I know about that, I am holding a bag myself. I can go to the grave, it's not very far from here and shout and cuss and spout all my anger but who am I talking to? It's just a pile of dirt with some bones. All the bad stuff is inside me. The dirt doesn't care, the bones can't speak.

I want to apologize to you for what I said to you previously. I wasn't just trying to protect Andy, I was protecting myself. Life is too short and death too long to be bitter.

Tigerman If what you say is true about wanting to learn about the war then why dont you just sit back and read. You've been trying to pick a fight since you came onboard

Sorry for strurring up the shit guys I was just trying to remember a friend who passed on on November 11th. My home computer puked this weekend so if my son can't fix it I'll have to buy a new on. in the meen time I'll just use the companys time and money to keep in touch...chris

You still don't have the right to say what you said here. Your father remembered a fallen comrade on Veterans day, which is more then most of the world will ever do. Whatever your private issues are with him, should be just that...PRIVATE. Work them out with him in person, and not here on the boards. All you did was distract from the true purpose of another members post (which had NOTHING to do with you, or your family) and disrespect the remembrance of a fallen Vet. I guess that's something you will never understand, having never served your country and learned the true meaning of friendship and respect.
