When a group of U.S. Marines crashed their helicopter performing an emergency landing on the beaches of Okinawa, they knew just what they needed to bring it back to base: an even bigger helicopter. There is a video link from BBC on site only.

The UH-1Y Venom from the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing made a “preventive landing” just after 4 p.m. Saturday, when a warning light flared indicating excessive speed in the main rotor, Stars and Stripes reported. There were no injuries in the landing and the aircraft didn’t catch fire.

The incident was followed by yet another emergency landing Monday under almost identical circumstances. An AH-1Z Viper assigned to Marine Corps Air Station Futenma landed in a grassy area after a warning light turned on. No one was injured and authorities expect to fly the craft back to base on its own power.

The U.S. military base in Okinawa Japan houses 26,000 troops and is one of the major pillars of Japan’s alliance with America, but it has become point of tension for the local populace. Locals have long been pushing for it to be moved to a less-populated area or off the island entirely.

O Almighty Lord God, who neither slumberest nor sleepest; Protect and assist, we beseech thee, all those who at home or abroad, by land, by sea, or in the air, are serving this country, that they, being armed with thy defence, may be preserved evermore in all perils; and being filled with wisdom and girded with strength, may do their duty to thy honour and glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
