767 loaded with U.S. troops makes emergency return to Pease, no injuries among 240 aboard
By Doug Alden, New Hampshire Union Leader - October 28. 2018 1:37PM RE: http://www.unionleader.com/public-sa...board-20181028 PORTSMOUTH - A military charter jet made an emergency landing Sunday at Portsmouth International Airport at Pease after warning systems indicated a flap problem shortly after takeoff, airport officials said. The Boeing 767 landed safely about 12:15 p.m. and there were no injuries to the 240 aboard, said Andrew Pomeroy, airport operations manager. The flight was carrying U.S. Army troops home from Ireland when it arrived about 6 a.m. Sunday, Pomeroy said. After the passengers cleared customs and the plane was refueled, the flight took off again about 9 a.m. for Columbus, Ohio, but called back to the tower when warning lights indicated a problem, Pomeroy said. “They got some indications and they didn't want to proceed on,” Pomeroy said. “They stayed up to burn off fuel because they were heavy and landed for precautionary reasons.” Pomeroy said maintenance crews were inspecting the plane Sunday afternoon.
