Tamaroa Preservation Project 2005
UPDATE TAMAROA, A WORK IN PROGRESS
We commissioned a mooring study to best determine the method of docking/mooring the Tam in the Pamunkey River. We?ve met with the Corps of Engineers and the Virginia Marine Resources Administration. We only used about 15-20 gallons of paint in 05 mainly because weather did not cooperate with our work weekends so we worked down below for a lot of those weekends. About 80% of her fire fighting life safety equipment has been restored. Over the course of 05 we?ve had about 87 people just casually stop by and visit asking all sorts of questions about her. In 2005, we?ve had 3070 man hours of shipboard work and 2500 hundred hours of administrative work all volunteers plus 150 hours of miscellaneous work associated with the Association but not the ship itself, for a total of 5,720 hours worth of time valued at a total of $114,400. We are in the process of designing an honorary adoption certificate so that interested parties can adopt a one square foot piece of the Tamaroa. CORE GROUP OF VOLUNTEERS ARE MADE UP OF THE FOLLOWING: 13 Coast Guard People 5 Navy People 1 Marine 5 Non military Others come and go on an irregular basis. Bill D. http://www.tamaroa.org
