Excellent Post!
Thank you for making this post! I read everything I can get my hands on about Omaha Beach. My uncle (E. Trantham, Jr. of Marshfield, MO) landed on Omaha before H-Hour. He was in an Engineer Battalion (he called it a "bastard outfit" because it didn't belong to a Division) tasked with destroying beach obstacles. He told me the small arms fire was so heavy that everyone who landed 200 yards to the right of where he landed was killed that morning.
