Comparatively Speaking!

Do we really have it better now than we did some 232 years ago? Are we freer of foreign interference today, than we were back then? Do we still chart our own path and our own goals? Do we yet march to our own drummer? “Tell me true!”

Once upon a time, in a land not so far away, a hearty band of people set foot upon virgin soil. Armed with naught but an iron will, determination, and a stubborn streak, they endured harsh winters, hostile surroundings, and an alien wilderness that they were determined to tame!

These brave souls, our Founders, endured an endless stream of destroyers, people who would bring them to their knees! They also refused to succumb to the nature of things, an existence that was totally alien to their backgrounds, as well as a state of affairs that echoed, all along the way, that they would fail?

So, comparatively speaking, what has changed? Have we grown weary or indigent with the passing of years? Are we now so arrogant as to believe that past glory will carry the day for us? Or have we fallen victim to a fatal dose of complacency and arrogance?

We are (basically) still the same nation of rebels and dreamers that crossed a vast ocean in an effort to tame a new frontier! The same rock-hard individualists who instead of asking why, asked “Why Not?” And if we have, at times, lost our way, we quickly regained our bearings, picked ourselves up by the bootstraps, and carried on to bigger and better things!

We have lost nothing in the translation of time, over the past two centuries plus. We are, as we have always been, at the top of our game, even if a few among us have forgotten this axiom of “The American Way of Life?”

We must carry on, forever regain our equilibrium, and in the process, defy those who now seek to create a (so-called) new order of things! “For we are Americans, a breed unto ourselves, and damned proud of it!”
