Posthumous Purple Heart Medal To Be Awarded....
Success -- Finally
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thought you might like to know what is happening to "Posthumous Purple Heart For Prisoners of War Who DIED In Enemy Captivity." This is the response that we received from Senator Boxer's office today. Brenda Tavares ----- Original Message ----- From: "Norris, Ann (Boxer)" Sent: Tuesday, December 18, 2007 11:54 AM Subject: RE: QUESTION?????????????????????????????????????????? ????? DoD assured us that they are working to change the regulations now, and that the changes to the regulation should be in place by mid next year. We continue to follow up with DoD on a regular basis. This is from the last correspondence we received: The policy change to allow POWs who die in captivity to receive the Purple Heart is being incorporated into the revised version of DoD 1348.33-M, Manual of Military Decorations and Awards. The revised manual is currently being staffed at the Action Officer level and will be formally staffed for approval early next year. We anticipate publication of the revised manual by mid-2008. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you - Ann Ann Norris Senior Legislative Assistant Senator Barbara Boxer -----Original Message----- From: Rick Tavares Sent: Tuesday, December 18, 2007 2:43 PM To: Norris, Ann (Boxer); Schultze, Sharon; Major Doug Johnson Subject: QUESTION?????????????????????????????????????????? ????? Could you please let us know WHY the DoD Is Tap Dancing around this Posthumous Purple Heart Medal for the Prisoners of War who DIED in Enemy Captivity for the past year? Why has it NOT been implemented into the Purple Heart Regulations already? I hope to hear from you soon. Merry Christmas & A Happy New Year!!!! Brenda Tavares

Major Has there been any feed-back as to when the Posthumous Purple Heart Measure will finally be entered into the Manual, thereby allowing those family members who are eligible to begin application process for the posthumous Purple Heart Medal for their loved one who died in enemy captivity? Do You Have Any Phone Numbers Of The Difference Military Services That We and These Veterans Groups Who Are Calling Us, Might Call Directly To Find Out When They Will Let The Public Know As To When Relatives Can Start The Process Of Applying For This Posthumous Purple Heart Medal? Rick is too old and sick to continue spending have the day trying to respond to these people on something that we have no definitive answers as far as dates to respond to these people.
