Default Mourning Memories

Mourning Memories
Woke up this morning in a total mess, of some of the nightmares that have been having. Decided to go through my photo's and albums that I have when I was in the Navy.. Then I started to think of all the members of the crew whom I served with in Vietnam. I then went to my computer to update some info that I had received and it was then, that I was shocked to see the updated figure of the number of crew members who have passed away since returning home from Vietnam. Total crew was 311 and out of that 67 have passed away and mostly from CANCER

LEST WE FORGET

I couldn't find a proper video for the Australians that served, so I will use one from the US, as we are very, very similar, if not same regarding the WARS and the passing of our fellow MATE!

Please enjoy the VIDEO as I did

I have edited this to add this below, a bit old but serves the purpose

We might have been able to whip y'alls potatoes, but we could never beat your meat! (taken from a sign on an Aussie Naval Vessel in Vietnam, with some liberties)

War is a life long memory. We just need to get through day by day. I truly believe we are more related to Aussies than the English. Welcome home mate! It is a pleasure having you with us.

Although I take "a wee dram", (as my Scottish Grandfather used to say), now and again, (pause for all the guys on the site to gafhaa), Chivas ain't the answer. Do you guys have any Counseling Centers just set up for returning Combat Vets like we have? (Vet Center Program) You got guys in Iraq and Afghanistan and a slew of Vietnam Vets that have to go somewhere for help I would imagine. Maybe you've already been through the process but just worry a bit about you. I spent 27 years working with Vets so it's in my blood to be a mother hen. Have a dram for me!

Sorry Packo... Forgot to answer you..

Yes we have Gov Counseling Programmes and Psychologists etc
They help some Vets and some dont help at all.. just make matters
But like you guys in the states... The Government dont care about its returned military untill you get the card and then they just can't do enough for you.
To get the gold card so to speek, you have to fight them like hell to prove... unless you commit suicide or just give up (which they prefer anyway)
All this should sound familar .. YES!!

I drink to forget but then I forget to stop drinking

AND so I tell my shrink
