Kent State to honor military, families, By Spc. Lorie Jewell

(EXCERPT) KENT, Ohio (Army News Service, Feb. 12, 2004) - When the
Kent State University men’s basketball team tips off against rival
Bolling Green Saturday, television cameras will show the nation more
than two teams battling for victory before a sold-out crowd.

The broadcast on ESPN 2 will share with America the athletic team’s
support and appreciation for service members and their families,
particularly those in the Ohio Army Reserve who have participated in
the Global War on Terrorism and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

For a campus known as the site of the infamous May 4, 1970 clash
between war protestors and Ohio National Guardsmen - in which four
Kent State students were killed and nine wounded by Guardsmen -- the
show of support for the military could signify a new chapter in the
university's 84-year history, officials said.
