Shake, Rattle & Roll!

Fault lines crisscross much of Southern California, and at the head of this cracked-up topography stands the ?Mighty San Andres!? This fault, visible at the surface in some places, could slice off a sizable chunk of coastal real-estate when (not if) it decides get a move on!

Add to this potential disaster, the fact that numerous other fault zones dart across the Southland, and indeed the entire nation, some very near to the surface, and the potential for several of these faults to act in concert becomes a distinct possibility! As a matter of fact, some scientist claim that such a temblor could rival the ?Alaskan Quake? some years back, and could top out at well over 8 on the Richter scale, every point being many, many times more lethal that the one that preceded it! And what the shaking don?t kill, the tsunamis are almost sure to finish off, up to several miles inland from the coast!

Such monumental disasters have been witnessed before, like the quake and Great Sea Wave that literally wiped out the ?Ancient Minoan Civilization!? Or the massive explosion caused by Krakatoa in 1883! Or the ?Biggest Of All Muthas?, the asteroid that slammed into the Yucatan Peninsula thousands upon thousands of years ago, wiping out the dinosaurs and nearly everything else, along with creating gargantuan tidal waves and a (so-called) nuclear winter!

So what effect would such a cataclysm have upon the armed forces of the world today - especially naval power!? Could any coastal naval base or other military facility survive such a sneak attack from nature - ?HELL NO!!? And yet, as if in a race with the gods, we still attempt to beat ?Old Mother Nature? to the punch, and finish the planet off first!

Although fatal enough, terrorism and even nuclear or biological attack, could not match the ability of kismet (fate) to take us out without even breaking a sweat! So we continue to play our deadly games until that day when that ?Greatest Of All Chess Masters? decides that we have not really advanced much beyond the caves, and gives us all our final checkmate!

You know, when you come to think in these ?Cosmic Terms?, mankind really ain?t so tremendous after all! And after this inevitable last straw, there will be nothing left but lost potential, obliterated plans, flattened empires, and a vaporized dream that not even the All-Mighty would be able to recognize!

Neither castle, nor mansion, nor fortress, nor church, nor hovel, will grant protection from the follies of man, or the long-overdue vengeance of a far greater power!! ?For after all is said and done, all that will remain is ashes, vanity, and an echo of what could have been!?
