Default need some advice ...

One of my platoon mates sent me several pictures of dead NVA and VC from our tour in Vietnam a few years ago. I don't look at them often, but remember every one. Should I post these here under "Reality of War" ? How would you feel if a North Vietnamese posted pictures of dead GIs he had killed...let me know..

the problem with war, is that those who watch TV and the movies do not have an inkling of the horror, the smell, the feeling of it all....it gets in your ears, your hair, your clothes, your mind and your soul and never goes away....

let me know what you think..

Larry

Larry & all...I never been to Vietnam, but do post here often. Never took a picture of the dead in Iraq or Kuwait, don't think it is right. I remember sitting down to watch the news one night and recall seeing warlords and thugs drag US Soldiers through the streets of Somalia, broke my goddamn heart.

I vote against.

Trav

P.S. On the fire ground or accident scene, I do not let the scum of the earth reporters take pictures until after we have removed the bodies. Have had a ass chewing or two because of this but, I feel the dead deserve it. Let them rest.

Gotta go with Trav on this.
Spent a tour plus a couple months and never saw a body - guess that makes me a base camp REMF. Lost some people in ambushes on convoy and security patrols but never around me. I wouldn't want to see their pictures on some NVA Vets channel. Would Ba Ngyuen want to see her son?
On the other hand, I guess the ACLU has had an affect on me. I've seen some pictures I don't want to see again, but if I don't want to see them, I won't look. Post if you want.

Unless you have devised some new photographic technology that includes the smells, tensions, mental stains, and scars on the soul that accompany war, I can't see where publishing those photos will do any good. Give it a rest, permanently.

Larry

I've seen a few bodies that I chewed up with my twin 50's, while patoling the rivers, an beleive me there were not pretty. I say don't do this as it might trigger some things that that have been buried for some time.

Thumbs up

Growing up I loved to read about the Civil War. Got a copy of Matthew Bradys photos of the Civil War. One picture still gives me the willies. Guys picking up the dead at Cold Harbor a few months after the battle. Arms , legs etc on a stretcher with a skull on top that I swore was smiling at me. I have a few dead guy pic's that guys gave me. Haven't looked at them in 20 years. Post away , those of us that don't want to look won't. Had a guy in my platoon whose girl friend would always send him naked pic's of herself , that he proudly showed us. May be David could start a section for that type photo
