Thumbs up

Went to Korea for just a few weeks TDY. My CO wasn't American nor was I under command of the US Army, I was assigned to the United Nations Forces. Got hit and carried out of VN in '68. No Purple Heart, who gives a damn? As an old girl friend of mine used to say, "Tain't no big thing!!!"
Just read through six pages of this thread and every bit of it has done nothing but brought pride through my being a smile to my face.
Thank you so much for bringing the lives of the Dirty Thirty to us.
BTW Todd, 74 doesn't sound too old to a few of us here 'cause in just a few short years we hope to be that old and up on a mountain top in northern Georgia.
Thanx for bringin' your Dad's here for us. Tell 'em "Welcome Home" for Stick.

As far as other film etc., my sister and I are getting a Nikon scanner to start scan THOUSANDS of slides. We have also found 4 reels of 16mm some labeled Korea and a few more labled with different AF bases so if nothing else we may come up with historical footage of different planes etc.

Dave,

I will try to get dad to take a look at the film and see what he says. The one with the VIP is a little small, but I will do my best. I will see if dad remembers a 9+ plane paratrooper drop in '62 or recognizes the building. Keep up the awesome work.

Stick,

Words like that coming from a veteran makes me feel very proud. I can never thank my dad or you guys enough for going into harms way. The very least a civy like me can do is keep their memory and their story alive. It's guys like you that let guys like me live in the best country on earth!!

Thank you and God bless all of y'ahl.

Thumbs up This is wonderful!

"I am so glad y'all have found each other. It's a great tribute to the founder of this site, David. This is what it's all about. Pack"

I could not have said it better!

Default Thank you so much David !

David

I want to thank you and all the members of this forum for your interest, input and most of all your support!

The "Dirty Thirty" thread has now had it's 3500 view. Not bad for eight month's.

Of historical nature only "the Wall" thread has more view's in the Vietnam section, yes I know there are many threads on "physco Vets" that have more.

I have now received a slide scanner so I may contribute more to my dad's career.

I know he is looking down smiling, probably in dis-believe that what he percieved as "just a job" so many have wanted to take a peek inside.

Again thank you for putting together a place for those that care about this country and especially our veteran's to record their stories and event's

Dave

Default Found more info

As we sort out my Dad's things we found a couple of more things of interest.

First attached the "Dirty Thirty" patch that was talked about earlier. My Dad told me these were hand made I have two and both are different. I'm sure there are not to many of these around.

We also found a certificate (anybody read Vietnamese?) I believe this goes along with the Vietnam Air Force wings my Dad received from their Air Force. We found the wings in the case along with his Air Medal.

The patch my dad has looks a lot like this one. Like David said they were hand made. I have my dad's decorations (including his Vietnamese wings)in a display case but I have never seen the certificate before. I will have to check with my dad to see if he still has his. It's not like I can order another one from the VNAF!
