I remember some folks in CuChi that had put cardboard in the tops of their boonie hats on the inside, and had all kinds of things
on the outside. Shoe laces in knots, the usual grenade pins and flechette rounds, and lots more......it was a fashion statement, I'm sure.

What you said about boonie hats with all kinds of wire and card board contraptions really struck me funny. I've been laughing about that whenever I think of it. Most of the guys in my company seldom wore any kind of cap or hat except for a steel pot at times. We usually had the pot sitting next to us in the truck. Did you guys also call them brain buckets?
