OT MS Flight Simulator
I have been watching Discovery Wings and just for giggles went and
looked at flight simulator. Does anyone use that? I want to get it to learn how to fly a DC-3. Would I have to start with something smaller or can I just rev her up and get airborn? |

I suppose you would be considered politically incorrect if you had been re-enacting the Battle of the Coral Sea, Iwo Jima or some other Pacific Theatre battle at work. Re: OT MS Flight Simulator
Yeah, it is just the thing for us old coots. You will be spending 4 hours a
day online with all your messengers marked "away" by the end of the week. Invest in a good joystick. MS flight sticks work well with MS Flightsim. You can fly combat by using MS Games Zone. My favorite is to choose the Sopwith Camel biplane against the hot WWII fighters. Their speed is so high that I can wheel the old slow biplane in slow circles to shoot and they can't hold me in their sights. You will need a cable connection to properly use Flight Sim online. The high frame rate uses a lot of bandwidth. The old planes are unforgiving. Flight characteristics are quite realistic; you need to watch airspeed and trim, flaps, gear and altitude. Just "rev her up". A few crashes will teach you the tricks. You can fly a few combat patrols to learn the controls, and do the takeoff-landings later. My only regret is that the P-38 is not on the European version that I have (is on the Pacific version). My favorite plane for patrol and combat is the ME-109. MS flight sticks work well with MS Flightsim. I got a joystick but never even opened the box. It is a little dated now but should be still useable. I am not into that fighter stuff. It would be cool to "fly the hump" in Burma. I had a good friend that bought the DC-3's added new avionics, longer wings and updated them out of the San Diego area in the 80's, don't know what ever happened to him but everyone loved his planes. If I get to feeling froggy, maybe I could pretend one was a Puff? >You can fly combat by using MS Games Zone. My favorite is to choose the >Sopwith Camel biplane against the hot WWII fighters. Re: OT MS Flight Simulator
During the late lamented war in Viet Nam an A-1E (or D) shot down a Mig.
Said shootdown is verified and certified on the skyraider web site. So a Spad killed a Jet at least once in the history of aerial combat. A lot of fighter drivers ca. WWII will agree that the Messerschmitt ME-109 was a superior airplane. Better than damn near ALL the Allied fighters. -- Don Thompson Ex ROMAD "Pepperoni" news:botl9d$1i6j33$1@ID-105689.news.uni-berlin.de... > Yeah, it is just the thing for us old coots. Who wouldn't want to be under those conditions? By the way, did you get JULY? Never heard back. |
