Note: South Korea condemned its neighbor's provocations

North Korea fired several cruise missiles toward the Yellow Sea on Saturday, launches that come just days after the reclusive regime announced it had simulated a "scorched earth" nuclear strike on South Korea, according to a report.

South Korean and U.S. intelligence officials are analyzing the Saturday launch, South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement, Reuters reported.

South Korea condemned its neighbor's provocations.

"It's an act of hostility that threatens the peace on the Korean peninsula," a spokesperson for the ruling People Power Party said.

North Korea released a statement on state-run media outlet KCNA accusing Japan of increasing tensions in the region by developing long-range missiles but did not mention Saturday's rocket launch.

On Thursday, North Korea said that they had been rehearsing an occupation of their southern neighbors in the event of a conflict, and that tests were a response to the United States’ flyover of long-range B-1B bombers for a joint aerial training with South Korea earlier Wednesday as part of the allies’ field exercises.
