AFTER THE STORM
we were rewarded with some of the bluest sky that we'd seen in awhile. The area was a kaliediscope of colors all the time.

IT'S THE ELEMENTS
of nature that has formed this area. Not just the geology of the place, but the living things, also. It can be harsh at times.

HOODOOS
That's the name of the free-standing rock formations that Mother Nature has carved. This is back down in Red Canyon.

AFTER THE SNOW,
we drove back down to Red Canyon. The snow complimented the red rock as beautifully as it did the pastel pinks and oranges of the park.

SKIING
I brought my cross country skis with me, so after the snow storm I switched from hiking to skiing. I did this for many years when we lived in snow country, but not at all since we returned to the Bay Area about 6yrs. ago. I was amazed at how well I did after such a long layoff from the sport. The beautifully groomed ski trails helped. Ruby's Inn and the Parks Department maintain a ski trail system in and out of the park. Ruby's Inn rents cross country skis and snowshoes if you don't bring your own.

WILDLIFE
When I started skiing, I started seeing alot of deer. It has always amazed me how close animals will let a skier get to them. Maybe they don't recognize us as humans right away. Over the years I've gotten some very close-up pictures of elk, deer, moose, and buffalo while on skis.

ANOTHER DAY
You can't tell it in the picture, but all of the deer in it had horns. There were 5 of them all together. I think the one looking at me was the biggest. At least a 4 point. They didn't let me get as close as the does had, but they never ran. They just kinda spread out and walked away abit, but remained curious about me.
Ron, this is how they look in the wild off of the game farm .
