Judge orders Treasury to notify Trump 72 hours prior to possible release of tax returns

Re: https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/n...ouse-democrats

A federal judge issued a temporary order that requires the Treasury Department to give former President Donald Trump’s attorneys three days notice before handing over his tax returns to House Democrats.

Judge Trevor McFadden, who was appointed to the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia by Trump in 2017, issued the two-week order on Friday as House Ways and Means Chairman Richard Neal, a Massachusetts Democrat, continues to seek years of Trump’s federal tax returns, according to Politico.

Neal argued during Trump’s presidency that the Treasury is required to provide requested returns from the chairs of congressional tax committees. Despite that, Trump’s former treasury secretary, Steven Mnuchin, had refused to do so after they were requested in 2019.

It is unclear if the Treasury plans to relinquish the documents now that President Biden is in office, although House counsel Douglas Letter made it clear on Friday that Neal and the Ways and Means Committee are still seeking them and hopes the department “will follow what we believe is a clear legal obligation” to provide them to lawmakers.

here was also handwringing on Capitol Hill over how to handle Trump’s impeachment given the incoming administration’s legislative goals.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer announced on Friday that the trial would be delayed until Feb. 9 in order to give the Senate time to conduct the business of the new administration, including approval of Cabinet nominations and a COVID-19 relief package.

Meanwhile, Trump has been uncharacteristically mum since his departure from the White House. On Friday, he spoke to the Washington Examiner for the first time since he left Washington and said, “We’ll do something, but not just yet.”

Personal note: We all have to fullfill the governments request - so you had better have your stuff ready - its show and tell time!
