VIETNAMESE SHOULD DISCARD THE USE OF CHINESE VIETNAMESE WORDS TO REPRESENT NEW CONCEPTS

In a recent post on the Quoc Ngu ,Vietnamese Current writing system,
El Chino mentioned the drawbacks of this system that need to be
entirely overhauled.
The advantage is it makes the learning of writing and reading much
easier. Learning two dozens characters the combination of which yield
all Vietnamese Words is certainly easier than learning about 3000
complex Chinese characters the pronunciation of those is uncertain
even for the Chinese let alone the Vietnamese.
(Note: 3000 Chinese Words represented about 95% of all Chinese Words
frequently in use. The minimum Chinese vocabulary is about 300
characters sufficient to half of the Chinese population just like the
minimum literacy of Vietnamese was defined as to be able to read and
to write all Vietnamese words but to understand , probably, no more
than 300 words. I would venture to say that 50% of Americans are
quite comfortable with the knowledge and use of about 300 English
words).

Another fundamental difference between the two languages is in the
grammar. Chinese put adjective in front of noun , i.e., Ba.ch O^'c=
White House while the Vietnamese put them in reverse , i.e., Nha`
Tra(‘ng similar to the French Maison Blanche

There is no possibility to improve on the Quoc Ngu to make it
compatible with the Chinese.

The Schizophrenic nature of Vietnamese both in Vietnam and in Boat
people makes the use of the Quoc Ngu confusier and confusier

I gave two examples:
1)In last few weeks about 3 dozens posts appeared on SCV to ascertain
the meaning of a Vietnamese compound word: Pha?n Ho^`I which was
composed of Pha?n meaning Anti or reaction and Ho^`I meaning return
or boomerang or …reaction !
The dozen or so of Boat experts could not come to any definitive
conclusion, a proof, to El Chino, that we should discard COMPLETELY
the use of Ha'n Vie^.t (Chinese Vietnamese characters) in representing
new ideas or concepts.


Second was the translation of the Chinese word Taikongnaut depicting
the Chinese Astronaut (American way) or Cosmonaut (Russian way).who
just circumnavigating the Earth in Than Chau 5 (Divine Pearl #5).
The BBC and RFI Vietnamese sections utilized the word Phi Hanh Khong
Gian (Space flier) while the Vietnamese Media in Vietnam used the word
Du Hanh Vu Tru or Traveler in the Cosmos.

The Chinese was much bolder using a compound word comprising two
Chinese Words Tai Kong. I understand the meaning of Kong which is
similar to Vietnamese Khong Gian or Space and an Americano/Russian
word "Naut" a new concept not existing in Chinese.

I believe that Vietnamese both here and at home are wasting very
precious time to tackle intractable problems, i.e., using or coining
Ha'n Viet (Chinese Vietnamese) words representing accurately new Idea,
Technology and concept.
The Chinese showed some boldness lacking in the Brainless
Vietnamese.when they added the word Naut to their Taikongnaut.

El Chino would use , if he were to translate taikongnaut into
Vietnamese, the compound word Ko^'t Mo^ No^'t a rendering of the
Russian Word Cosmonaut not because of any Russianophile but because
Cosmos is more accurate to describe the flights of Gagarine, Neil
Armstrong and Mr Yang Liwei

USSR uses the term "cosmonaut".
USA uses the term "astronaut"
Now China uses "Taikongnaut".

The young Cuo^.i was a Vietronaut! ;-))))

JAPAN uses the term Japkonaut

I believe the term Cosmonaut or Taikongnaut is English words, not
Russian or Chinese as comrade NguyenGianViet has misunderstood.

For these ...naut words Vietnam already has "Phi Ha`nh Gia" as the
South called them or "Nha` Phi Ha`nh Vu~ Tru." as the North called
them, and all of them are Han Viet. There is really no need to have
other term for it. However, since comrade NguyenGianViet is obsessed
with Quocngu_rize then I suggest he use the word " Ta`i Xe^' Ta`u Xi.t
