Hi guys, mind if an old fart pokes his nose in?

I think I can answer this question. Yes, he/she would be considered a WWII vet. There is an American Theater ribbon awarded for WWII. My dad had that and the Pacific Theater.

Default What's the latest?

Has the American Legion POS issued a public apology yet? The airwaves have been curioiusly quiet on the matter.

Our American Legion "Chief" has just issued a UKAZE stating that any member who throws a cigarette butt on the ground outside the Legion Post will be banned for 30 days. I just sent an e-mail terminating my membership stating that "I spent 35 years suffering under CHICKENSHIT and I'm not about to spend another 20 years in a Service Organization swallowing the same crap."

Default Strange paradigm

It seems strange that an organization that gets its panty's in a wad over a cigaretter butt but can't police its own members has their priorities in the wrong place. Congrats on your decision!

Not meaning ANY disrespect to anyones service, but way too many Legion members were way back here with their gear in the rear. That's where "chickenshit" comes from mostly.

Now, as a smoker, I don't like it when other smokers don't use the proper disposal methods, but "banned for 30 days", give me a friggin' break.

Default UPDATE!

Below is a portion of the statement released by the American Legion a few days ago.

----START----

INDIANAPOLIS /U.S. Newswire/ -- The following is a statement by American Legion National Commander Paul A. Morin:

Recently I was accused of lying about my military service in a piece of shoddy journalism published by the Boston Globe.

Let me set the record straight: I served two years during the Vietnam War at Fort Dix, N.J., as a supply specialist and field lineman in the U.S. Army, and got an Honorable Discharge in 1974. I am proud of my military service. I did my duty, and I was willing to go anywhere and do anything my country asked of me. However, Fort Dix, N.J., is where they needed me.

The Massachusetts law that determined veterans preference, for which I was eligible, stated that anyone who served honorably during the designated period for 180 days or more was a "Vietnam Veteran." There was no mention of "Vietnam-era Veteran." Likewise, The American Legion made no distinction among veterans when I joined, nor do they today.

So, over the course of some 30 years, I have seen myself described as -- and I have described myself as -- "a Vietnam veteran," "a Vietnam-era veteran," "an Army veteran of the Vietnam War," "a military veteran," and "a Vietnam veteran who served at Fort Dix."

I believe each of those descriptions to be accurate.

"However, I have always been willing to serve wherever I could, and I have dedicated my life to serving veterans and their families. As the leader of the world's largest veterans organization, I often times speak of our collective as "we," such as "when we returned from Vietnam." I consider it a figure of speech, no more deceitful than "when we were bombed at Pearl Harbor." I did not say, "When I returned from Vietnam," nor have I ever implied that I did.

(BULLSHIT!-----The mere pronouncement that you are, or were a "Vietnam Veteran" clearly indicates that you were deceptive about your TRUE status as a veteran. BEFORE you were elected as National Commander in ALL your documented correspondence and official reports/articles you called yourself a ''Vietnam ERA Veteran"-----since that time you have clearly MISrepresented yourself as a "Vietnam Veteran", or one who served IN COUNTRY rather than just an "ERA" veteran!-----And I for one call that a slap in the face to all who served "in country"-------Gimp )

Must be something in the water in Massachewshits. Maybe he was a Vietnam Era Vet before he became a Vietnam Vet after being a Vietnam Era Vet. Hmmm the BS detector's are ringing...gotta go.

Gimpy, thanks for the update. What it seems to me is that it took him awhile to find this excuse and spin it. Oh, well...no matter, I have been boycotting that Organization for years.

Talking

Friend of ours is a big shot in the Legion in Buford , Ga. He asked Sid and I to join so we did . First night there Sid started their first bar brawl by almost killing some guy and I had to pull a boot knife on our new friends so they would leave Sid and what I assumed was a Viet Nam Era vet alone. Maybe the National Comannder will visit this post and we can start the second ever brawl in the place

What Morin stated was the most mealy-mouth excuse for committing fraud that I've read in a long time. Is it just me, are is flip-flopping a state sport in Massawchewshets? Sheesh, what a dirtbag.

I find it hard to believe that the AL board of directors would stand behind this deceitful fool.

I was born at night, but not last night.
