January 6, 1968 (7th day of the 12th month, Year of the Goat) (US Counteroffensive Phase III): Army Reporter articles on Operation Coronado IX, on an emergency resupply mission of a Special Forces camp at Bu Dop, on a successful LRRP ambush of the VC, on the Battle at Tam Quan, on Operation Yellowstone, on Operation Wheeler/Wallowa, on Operation Manchester, and on an attempt by a VC battalion to overrun a Royal Thai Volunteer Regiment in Bien Hoa Province.

January 6, 1969 (18th day of the 11th month, Year of the Monkey [Mau Than]) (US Counteroffensive Phase VI): In Kien Phong Province, US Company A, 2nd Battalion, 39th Infantry, 9th Infantry comes under heavy crossfire from an enemy complex while on a reconnaissance mission.

January 6, 1975 (24th day of the 11th month, Year of the Tiger): The NVA take Phuoc Long city and the surrounding province. The attack, a violation of the Paris peace agreement, produces no retaliation from the United States.

THIRD INDOCHINA WAR:
January 1979 (late Year of the Horse/early Year of the Goat): PAVN air strikes in Cambodia with MiG-21s, A-37s and F-5s reach a peak, with all major cities, including Phnom Penh, being bombed.
