Well
Our country gives us a lot of rights, rights that many other countries don?t afford to their citizens. But with rights come responsibilities.
Currently the vast majority of people in the military come from the middle and lower class. Our leaders might think a little longer and harder before using force to solve problems if their own sons/daughters were members of the military. I really like what they do in Israel. Between ages 18 and 25 each person must serve their nation for 2 years. It can be the military, it can be public works, it can be an entire host of things but they must work for the government for two years. Even those who are physically handicapped might be mailing you your water bill. Old Teddy Roosevelt once said, ?Every people have the government they are entitled to.? Translation: if your oppressed and do nothing about it, it?s your fault. Further, if you don?t give a damn about the U.S. why would the government give a damn about you? Finally, if the government can't protect you, dosen't have the man power to keep a good standing army, keep your head down, there's gonna be some serious crap coming in your direction. Stay healthy, Andy PS: Draft beer not me. PPS: Hey Mike, what unit in the 25th? |

I once met a guy from South Africa. There EVERY male goes into the service when he is 18 ans serves for three years. Once a year for the next ten years you must show up, get your head shaved, issued new uniforms and are back in the Army for two weeks......Could be worse.
I, like David joined by choice, enter in May of 87 and left in Jan 96, would gladly go back tomorrow if I could. Trav

what I'm saying
Your comment was probably just rhetorical but I don?t know you yet so I?ll give a brief response.
A universal draft, no draft deferments because your family has money or power, that's the way to go. Everyone spends two years serving their country in some capacity. It?s good for the country and it makes all citizens a part of the government. It actually makes the government harder to put down when you, yourself, are the government. It?s once you know exactly what's wrong that you can fix it. Mike, get rid of the Prozac. Celexa has less sexual side effects. Stay healthy, Andy PS: When were you with 2/22nd? Where they Mech then? |
