Default POW/MIA ceremony on the Common Friday

POW/MIA ceremony on the Common Friday

(EXCERPT) TOWNSEND -- National POW/MIA Recognition Day will be
observed this Friday when the Townsend VFW Post 6538 and its Ladies
Auxiliary will conduct a POW/MIA Candlelight Ceremony on the Common at
6:30 p.m.

The public is cordially invited to attend.

The purpose of the ceremony is to honor all American prisoners of war
and missing in action and to remind area residents that we must
continue to push for complete accounting for all those still missing
in action and those held against their will.

significant progress in repatriating those left behind from past
American wars, there is still much to do. There are still more than
78,000 unaccounted for from World War II, more than 8,100 missing in
Korea, 1,900 Americans missing in Southeast Asia, and 120 from the
Cold War era.

Those 44 Massachusetts residents still unaccounted for in Indochina
following the Vietnam conflict will be especially remembered.
