Default The door gunners eyes

When a re-supply chopper drops in with Ammo or food, you can always tell "what’s out there" by the door gunners eyes.
If he is looking at his watch and itching himself there's not much. If he is scrunched over to one side and his finger on the trigger of that M-60, You can figure that just beyond that tree line is a few people that don't have your best interest at heart. I seen a door gunner one time that didn't blink the whole time we were unloading his chopper. That was a scary sight. Any time someone doesn't blink for an extended period of time it's always because they are scared. And when they don't blink and throw up you had better lock and load.

I'll never forget the look in the eyes of the ARVN's when they were routed in Laos and came streaming out of Laos , on QL9 , through us back to RVN. Hugh eyes , no weapons and terror on their faces. Scared me to the bone cause what was chasing them was going to run into us.They did. I got back to Dong Ha with two of the guys I started out with ,the rest were replacements. Tiny was one of the guys.

Those Guys were a special breed, so was the chopper pilot. I remember one time going on a CA, and the pilot had crossbones on His helmet, and the nickname "Honda Kid" He would scare the "crap" out of You when He would take off, and make His turns. The door
gunners never talked much during these assaults. Did anyone ever get requests for volunteers as door gunners?
