The Yankee ("damn" the correct spelling) issue is a long gone issue. Just like blacks using the slavery issue to emphasize their opression today. The issue is today. The problem is with our government today. If we don't work on a change today, the problem will eventually take it's toll on the future and our children and grandchildren will feel results.

Its not a Rebel/Yankee thing, it's a People/Government thing. We're LOSING ground. literally! This is the USA! United? Work your local representative any way possible. Write your congressmen. What happened to "We the people?"

I agree with all of you that the Supremes have messed up-again.
But the issue is really narrowed down to the Northeast States. People in Oklahoma aren't going to be affected by this ruling because there's plenty of open space. And as Ron pointed out, we stole it from the Indians; particularly in Oklahoma.
The States can pass, and some have, laws prohibiting the siezure of private property for the benefit of private parties.
So there is an out. If you guys call on your local elected officials you might be able to get this lastest grab put to bed.

Your wrong about that Mr. Chas. The University of Tulsa (a privately owned institution) has been approved by the city government of Tulsa Oklahoma for expansion thereby removing privately owned business's that stand in its way.

We are very proud of our Native heritage here in Oklahoma our state flag reflects that pride. A simple reading of Oklahoma history will inform the reader that most land taken from the Native population in Oklahoma was done before and after we became a state by the federal government. This is not to say that there weren't many injustices done by local and state governments and individuals after statehood but to say Oklahoma in particular stole more Indian land than any other state is a misrepresentation of the states history.

The Oklahoma state flag honors more than 60 groups of Native Americans and their ancestors. The blue field comes from a flag carried by Choctaw soldiers during the civil war. The center shield is the battle shield of an Osage warrior. It is made of buffalo hide and decorated with eagle feathers. Two symbols of peace lie across the shield. One is the calumet, or peace pipe. The other is an olive branch. Crosses on the shield are Native American signs for stars, representing high ideals.

Let's explore the range of possibilities: me and a bunch of Texas millionaires are wanting to buy up the land where the Supreme Court building stands. Our plans include the construction of a 50-story luxury condo building, with the first three floors dedicated to upscale shops, bistros, and movie theatres. Underneath will be a secured parking facility and recycling area. This entire 2-city-block project will ultimately employ 1,350 people, add $750 million to the tax base, and be a permanent source of growing revenue to the City of Washington. Do we get to comdemn the SC building? This will certainly benefit Washington DC more than the current building and its employees.

Arrow your case of the Univ of Tulsa is actually an example of the correct application of emminent domain.
Or do you think the University provides no public good and instead of absorbing adjacent businesses it should move out of town to expand?

Chas...

When you can ask me a question in a gentlemanly manner you might get an answer.

Seems to me that Arrow's point is valid. What gives government the right to decide that one business provides greater "public good" than another?

The food nazis are gonna love this one! All the Micky D's in town to be replaced veggie-burger stands by City edict.

So you agree with Arrow that the public would be better served if the University of Tulsa moved out of town, rather than absorbing some adjacent businesses for it's expansion?

Interesting, the so-called liberal judges made a pro-business decision. The world is turned upside down.
