GRIZ
I did hear that the 101st was originally considered to be part of the Junction City jump. It was going to be 2/502, my battalion, and I think some of the 326th Engineers. I don't know why they scrubbed it.
One battalion [2/503?], some of their engineers and arty, and I think some MPs made the jump. Once they were on the ground, 2 bns. CA'd in. One bn. on each side of them. I knew a couple of the guys that made the jump.

- What is that patch you are showing? Folks - - Do females become paratroopers these days? |

That patch is 501st MI Brigade under INSCOM of the 8th Army..
About females becoming paratroopers... if we go through jump school, and jump with the rest of them.. i believe we're just as much a paratrooper as the next POG MOS male with wings out there. Granted I'll probably never make a combat jump (although weirder things have happened), but how many paratroopers you see walking around with their mustard stain? Not too many... Just my opinion. Respectfully, PFC Natalie Hughes

Natalie -
I posed my question wrongly... what I am wondering is if women DO go through paratrooper school nowadays... not sayin' they shouldn't, not sayin' I'd have the ovaries to do it, just a question... ARE women jumping out of airplanes these days with the blessing of our DOD? I'm an old fart and have little notion of what all is going on these days, and for sure probably won't approve of most of it, including women in combat except on a case by case basis. No intent to offend... |

That's it Griz! Where the duce did you find that? Thanks buddy! Quite a memory. Used to wear the patch on my jungle shirt pocket over there. Maybe Natalie will find one. The 8th Cav, "Jumpin' Mustangs" emblem is a white horse, then I was with the Koreans, White Horse. Sum kinda karma there.
Thanks again ol' buddy. Packo

Mike-
No offense taken.. I did however take the question the other way, I apologize for jumping the gun. About us women jumping out of planes with the DOD's blessing.... Airborne! We are still few and far between (about 5-10 %) but we're out there. If you scroll pack a few pages.. I posted a picture of my airborne class along with a little story on my jump school experience. As far as women going into combat (hehe...we should probably open up a new thread for that one), but I agree with you kinda. Maybe for different reasons. But, I don't think females should be going into combat either, except on a case by case basis. Respectfully, PFC Natalie Hughes Airborne!

Nat, sure glad I didn't offend you... I surely did not mean to do so... I don't like the idea of women in combat, just don't.
I do, however, very much like the idea of women jumping out of airplanes! Shoot, it's FUN. Zooooooomies know the fun...of the air and the wings. Airborne Women, any kinda women, those are the best wimmens! But, I don't like the idea of seeing you killed... our future is in your "hands", so we old guys take exception to you being allowed in combat except on a case by case basis... I remember that one girl, Demi Moore I think her name was... that lady stood right up and took it all... and then they punked out on her. That's what I fear for you Nat... they lie... but we DO need fighters. Got any? |
