Default SPOKANE: State receives $8.8 million to build veterans cemetery

AP

The Washington state Department of Veterans Affairs said it has received an $8.8 million grant to build the first state veterans cemetery.

The cemetery will be built near Medical Lake in Spokane County, which was chosen because more than 50,000 veterans live there.

Department Director John Lee said Thursday that the goal is to complete construction in time to dedicate the cemetery on Memorial Day in 2010.
