Default some fish we caught awhile back ....

About a month ago my son Justin and I went fishing in Pickwick Lake, which is the lake formed by Pickwick Dam, near Savannah Tennessee. My father worked on the dam which was completed in the late 1930s...We fished behind the dam and maybe 7 miles back into the lake. I have used a boat on some of the lakes around this area, but because of all the depth changes and not being too familiar with that part, we hired a guide. He had a nice boat with two depth finders...It was my first experience with depth finders, carolina rigs, and the whole bass fishing, on the lake, kinda thing you see on TV .....I have fished mostly in the tailwaters in front of the dam since I was 5 years old......all bank fishing. Anyway, we had a great time, and the first fish anyone caught, was me, and it was a nice smallmouth bass. In all the years I had fished up there I had never caught one. The guide said maybe 4 lbs, so who am I to disagree ... LOL

see picture....

Our next trip will be to fish the swift water in front of the dam for Stripers ( some call them Rockfish ). It requires someone to operate the boat all the time, and someone to help the fishermen
do the right thing to snare some big ones. From what I have read there may be some as big as 30 lbs. in there.......We will probably wait until Sept. or Oct., ... too darned hot now.....

Larry
Did you catch and release or clean and eat? Pan fried bass is excellent

There are some limits on bass there. Have to dig them out....They were all released.

Larry

here they are :

PICKWICK LAKE:

Creel Limits: Largemouth Bass and Smallmouth Bass - 5 (15 inch minimum length limit on bass). Crappie - 30 (minimum length 9 inches). Water temps are in the low-80's. Largemouth and smallmouth bass fishing is good. Fish are being caught early and late off the points. Crappie fishing is fair. Bluegill/shellcracker fishing good. Fish are being caught on crickets and jigs tipped with wax worms.
