My Worst Day in Nam

I was reading the other thread and I wanted to post this, but it was going a particular direction so I didn't want to disturb it.

What was your worst day?

Mine was the very first day after coming back from R&R. I got informed that four of the greatest guys I'll ever have the pleasure of knowing were forever gone. Their ship burned when it went down. My bird that I'd flown in and loved for six months was gone - blown away by an accidental rocket discharge from another ship. (No casualties there, thank God, and my old crew was safe, though we never flew as a crew again). And my first flight out the following day I had a hard put down without any reply to the mayday, which made for some very tense hours.

I'm sure that rates nothing next to you boonie rats, but I never smiled again 'til the day I kissed my mother.
