Brad, I appreciate your loss. People say that they're only animals, but dammit, they worm their way into your heart and become part of your family.

Dianne and I lost Ursa, our Collie-Shepard protector and companion of 12 years, last April. Ursa was, without qualification, the queen bitch of the house. She'd have sacrificed her life to protect us, but she was very gentle with friends and family. With one look she could stop any playing around by the two goofballs, Sara and Emmy. If Ursa even looked at them, they'd tuck their tails and lie down. If she got up, the other two would be difficult to find.

Ursa was found along the side of the road by our daughter's friends at Purdue University when she was a small puppy. She had either been thown out of a vehicle or hit by one. In any case, her left hip was destroyed by the time she was found that day. Dianne learned of this and immediately adopted her, and after extensive and expensive surgery, she lived a long and happy life with us. She obviously had a problem when you saw her walk, but she'd run with any dog with no apparent problem.

One morning in April she finally could no longer rise from a prone position. We called our vet, and he came over and put her down while she was in Dianne's arms on the floor of our family room.

Ursa is buried in our back yard, alongside Nikki, Ferguson and Tandlyn. They're all right under the little dog flag that flies all year. "Just animals" - it'll be hard to move away from here knowing they're out there.

Thanks guys - truth be told I've been trying to have this done for awhile - she's been 'gone' for a long time. Today was definately for the best.

Okay - I'm done exposing my sensitive underside now.

Brad, I've learned that if you don't expose that "sensitive underside" once in a while, you'll become a bitter old man. I suspect that will not happen with you.

Tacos? Tacos! My specialty! I grew up in Tucson, Arizona! I've loved Mexican food all of my life! (Uhh, and it shows...)

Tacos, made with my homemade tortilla shells. Enchiladas, with lotsa cheese and sauce, jalepe?os, poblanos, salsas, dips, quesedillas - can we get a party started here? I'm getting hungry!
