Medivac
I'm alive today because of a Korean Medic and American Medivac flight. God bless them past, present, and future. Brave son'so'bitches. Women today are doing medivacs both as pilots and crewmen. I treated a female medivac crewman/corpsman while at the Naval Hospital.
Doc....although a different time then us.....I see 15th Med and 2nd Bn 8th Cav mentioned. Hoorah! Pack

Art Jacobs
He is alive and well. He comes to our reunions. Shirley noticed him right off the bat. He was impeccably dressed and the most antsy person she had ever seen. He is a business consultant living in Brentwood, Tennessee. Here is a letter and photo of his from Vietnam: http://www.nvvam.org/ourartists/arti...obs/jacobs.htm Not a good picture of him but here he is at our last reunion. He is the first guy on the left. Beside him is Colonel Bob Downing. He was one of the developers of the airmobile concept and was the one who set up Medevac and had them armed. http://groups.msn.com/15thMEDASSOCIA...to&PhotoID=797 I can't remember their names but he is standing with the entire crew he was with that day.

I don't want to rain on your parade, and I would guess your guy is just as you say, That being said, I have seen medivac refused to come into a LZ, I have see Gun ships refuse low level attacks. I guess that is self preservation , but, we sure could have used their help. Now credit is dew were credit is dew. I thanked God more than one time for a gun ship that showed up and asked for smoke. And more than a few times I loaded wounded onto a medivac as AK rounds hit next to the door gunner. You will never forget the sound of a AK round hitting a huey. Ron |

Doc Fred.....
May God bless you and all of your kind! My oldest ships out this coming Weds for the Navy, he is going to be a Corpsman for the Navy. Thanks for the heads up Tommy!
Although my wounds were not life threatening, I had my hip and back put "somewhat" back together in 91 in the first desert go 'round. I owe much to medics! F___k a parade! Doc you guys did good! The "old man" was stationed at Quan Loi in 67 & 68 C and HQ Battery 6/27 FA. You guys put him back together too! Thanks! Trav

To my knowledge , Medivac was a generic turn for Medical evacuation, They used the term medivac in ww2, Korea, and beyond. You called for a dust off you got a medivac helicopter. http://www.centennialofflight.gov/es.../MASH/HE12.htm Ron |

I never experienced a Medivac not picking up wounded & KIA or a gunship not giving close support when either was under fire. I think the big difference with the 1st Cav, and later, the 101st were that they were Airmoble divisions with their own organic air assets and Medivac units such as the 101st Airborne’s 326th Med or as they were known, Eagle Dustoff.
