A defense of free speech by american and canadian muslims
A DEFENSE OF FREE SPEECH BY AMERICAN AND CANADIAN MUSLIMS Posted Sep 21, 2010 • Permalink • Printer-Friendly Version A DEFENSE OF FREE SPEECH BY AMERICAN AND CANADIAN MUSLIMS We, the undersigned, unconditionally condemn any intimidation or threats of violence directed against any individual or group exercising the rights of freedom of religion and speech; even when that speech may be perceived as hurtful or reprehensible. We are concerned and saddened by the recent wave of vitriolic anti-Muslim and anti-Islamic sentiment that is being expressed across our nation. We are even more concerned and saddened by threats that have been made against individual writers, cartoonists, and others by a minority of Muslims. We see these as a greater offense against Islam than any cartoon, Qur’an burning, or other speech could ever be deemed. We affirm the right of free speech for Molly Norris, Matt Stone, Trey Parker, and all others including ourselves. As Muslims, we must set an example of justice, patience, tolerance, respect, and forgiveness. The Qur’an enjoins Muslims to: * bear witness to Islam through our good example (2:143); * restrain anger and pardon people (3:133-134 and 24:22); * remain patient in adversity (3186); * stand firmly for justice (4:135); * not let the hatred of others swerve us from justice (5:8); * respect the sanctity of life (5:32); * turn away from those who mock Islam (6:68 and 28:55); * hold to forgiveness, command what is right, and turn away from the ignorant (7:199); * restrain ourselves from rash responses (16:125-128); * pass by worthless talk with dignity (25:72); and * repel evil with what is better (41:34). Islam calls for vigorous condemnation of both hateful speech and hateful acts, but always within the boundaries of the law. It is of the utmost importance that we react, not out of reflexive emotion, but with dignity and intelligence, in accordance with both our religious precepts and the laws of our country. We uphold the First Amendment of the US Constitution and the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Both protect freedom of religion and speech, because both protections are fundamental to defending minorities from the whims of the majority. We therefore call on all Muslims in the United States, Canada and abroad to refrain from violence. We should see the challenges we face today as an opportunity to sideline the voices of hate—not reward them with further attention—by engaging our communities in constructive dialogue about the true principles of Islam, and the true principles of democracy, both of which stress the importance of freedom of religion and tolerance. Once again, all talk and no action. They know the potential terrorists in their midst and do nothing about it. Let them turn the radicals in to the the FBI, CIA and the top Canadian law enforcement agencies and then I'll believe they mean peace on earth.

You got that right, Doc.
Never mind that most in mainstream press/media & other ideologue hypocrites will mock your
Free Speech. That's what such typically do. In their eyes, your or ANYONE doubting them is worst than Islamic Terrorism. Regardless, & just as Our Wonderful & Omnipotent Leader/Ruler/Dictator similarly & soothingly always acts & reacts, can such standard Clique Echoed Rhetoric EVER BE BELIEVED? I think not, in either case. Whether staunch Progressives/Socialists/Marxists or phony: "Islamic Moderates" in reality; "Stealth Muslims",...NEITHER CAN EVEN BE TRUSTED either. Just use your own eyes, ears & brain for determining how badly being BSd to death BY BOTH types. Giving either of those alluded to the benefit of doubt: "Can Be Quite Hazardous To Your Health", & childrens' & great grand-childrens' health also. Just because a whole bunch of Officials & Notables believe all such proved repeatedly liars & deceivers, don't be fooled by either type of Supremacist Ideologues (both foreign & domestic). Such will tell you just about anything for excusing selves,...except The Truth. Neil

Applause for Ahmadinejad He was greeted by applause when he walked into the United Nations General Assembly, and applauded again, even after questioning 9/11 and claiming that the American government may have been behind the attack. That’s right, applauded after questioning the motivation for the terrorist attacks, who was responsible for them, and essentially suggesting they were a U.S. plot. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has made a variety of claims over the years during his appearances here, but he never has gone this far when talking about 9/11. During his General Assembly address, the Iranian President called for a “U.N. fact finding group” to investigate 9/11. He also said that ”the majority of the American people as well as most nations and politicians around the world” believe that “some segments within the U.S. government orchestrated the attack to reverse the declining of the American economy and its grips on the Middle East in order to save the Zionist regime.” Before his speech, the Obama administration must have had high hopes that Ahmadinejad would have listened to the offers of diplomacy as presented by the administration and its allies on the Security Council. Members of the U.S. delegation remained in their seats. In years past, only what is called a “low-level note taker” has often been posted behind the little plastic “United States” sign, when Ahmadinejad took the stage. On Tuesday, when Ahmadinejad spoke during the global summit on poverty, the American delegation remained even as he predicted the defeat of capitalism. But true to form, he quickly went over the line with his 9/11 remarks and that prompted the U.S. diplomats, and others, to get up and walk out. “ It’s outrageous,” said State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley. “a short distance from here, nine years ago, three-thousand people were killed in an attack perpetrated by nineteen people, and an attack that was orchestrated by Al Qaeda. We know exactly who did it, they’ve admitted it, the facts are not in dispute, so for the President of Iran to come here and make the suggestion that somehow this was an American plot, is simply outrageous.” But as Ahmadinejad walked from the podium, he did so rewarded by applause in the august chamber of the world body. ______________________________________________ Reason #105 to toss the UN out of the US.
