If Charles F. Everett looks like a child in his Civil War soldier's portrait, that's because he was. The drummer boy from Worcester, Mass. may have been no older than 14 — and may have been as young as 12 — when he was killed in 1864 at the Battle of the Wilderness in one of the most horrific battles of this nation’s most horrible war.
