Flu Season is Here - Do you know what to do?
Healthcare Information
Flu season is upon us so do the following: 1. Eat right! 2. Make sure you get your daily dose of fruits and veggies. 3. Take your vitamins and bump up your vitamin C. 4. Get plenty of exercise because exercise helps build your immune system. 5. Walk for at least an hour a day, go for a swim, take the stairs instead of the elevator, etc. 6. Wash your hands often. If you can't wash them, keep a bottle of antibacterial stuff around. 7. Get lots of fresh air. Open doors & windows whenever possible. 8. Try to eliminate as much stress from your life as you can. 9. Get plenty of rest. Or take the doctor's approach. Think about it... When you go for a shot, what do they do first? A. They Clean your arm with alcohol... Why? Because Alcohol KILLS GERMS. So; B. Now I walk to the liquor store...(exercise) C I always put lime in my Corona ...(fruit) D. I eat Celery in my Bloody Mary...(veggies) E. I drink outdoors on the bar patio...(fresh air) F I tell jokes, laugh...(eliminate stress) G. I continue until I pass out?.(rest) The way I see it... If you keep your alcohol levels up, flu germs can't get you! Lastly - My grandmother always said, "A shot in the glass is better than one in the ass!"

My Grandmother (less her soul) was an Italian woman who didn't Americanize like my Grandfather. But while I lived with them for about four years (growing up) I learned alot about the old country and the way they did things. Like at meals everyone got a glass of wine, with the bread and the cheese. When I got stick I got a tablespoon of Grandma's medication - I later found out was Rock & Rye (the one with all the fruit in it. I'd often times see Grandma hit the medicine bottle and knew she must not be feeling well. Grandpa and I used to make wine in the basement. He had all his own barrels and many wheels of cheese. He also had about 40 canaries and they would sing like crazy. He made a white wine for cooking, day-go RED for the table drinking and Grappa (Italian white lightning) whew! that stuff just 3 oz. could roll your sock down. I would often times see Grandpa give each of the canaries an eye dropper of wine in their water. They'd sing like crazy and all take a snooze. Yep the older generation had their ways.

I follow the second set of rules often. Grandmas and Grandpas. My grandparents on my mothers side came from Germany and settled in a small town in Iowa (bolan), about 10 miles from Minnisota in the middle of the state. I remember visting them when I was young, My Great Grandmother lived across the street. Bolan was a town with a population of about 10. After I got out of the Army my Grandparents came and visited us in Illinois. I had a 69 mustang Mach 1 428 cobrajet and she wanted a ride in it, (tell your grandma no) so I take off kinda nice and easy and as we are obaying the speed limit she says, "well, kick it" So I pull it to first gear and power shifted 1-2 at around 6,000 RPM. I slowed and all she said was HUUU! I thought now when did she ever go that fast, she doesn't drive and they own a car that still has running boards. But I didn't do more than think it, after all my middle name is Kenneth after her sone who was killed in Normandy. Grandmas are truly Grand. Ron |

Boats,
Man were you lucky! My grandmother's cure for any ailment was an enema! You didn't dare sneeze around her or you'd find a a rubber hose up your butt and your guts being filled with soapy water. And I guarantee you, you'd be cleaned out! The one redeeeming thing that came out of it was that my butt cheeks got so strong from holding in the liquid (we had to take the whole bottle before she said we could let it go) I could crack walnuts with them!

Your earlier recommendation for anti-flu stuff sounds better than the stuff being offered today. The last time I took a flu shot was compliments of the US Army at Ft. Knox, KY. Sure as tomorrow, got the worst case of flu. Haven't had a shot or the flu ever since. Think I'll take my chances with just staying healthy.
