Default Member Search

David, is there any way to do a member search by looking for the branch of the armed forces, or by the location where the person lives? For instance, how could we discover how many members are from the Air Force, or the CG, etc.?

I realize that not everyone includes all info with their profiles, but it'd be interesting to know if any members live close to me (other than Boats).

I can make new fields in the user profiles to indicate those things but right now they do not exist. I will have those fields running in the next couple of days.

Ok added two fields to the member profiles

Active Duty/Prior Service
Years of Service

These fields can be searched by going to the members list and clicking on advanced search. You will then need to scroll down to those fields to include in the search and put in for example "Army" in the Active Duty/Prior Service field to find Army people. Of course everyone will need to fill out these new fields for the search to be effective and this can be done by going to your user-cp and clicking on edit profile.

Wow! Fast service, even on Christmas Eve!

Thank you, Sir!

Merry Christmas,

David, it might be a little late in the game, but do you think a standard entry for the services and states could be instituted? The search works fine, but there are people under Army, US Army, ect.

Maybe USMC, USA, USN, USAF, USCG?

And the two-letter abbreviation for the state?

It's probably too late.

I could add those but it would end up being a very long list when you consider all of the other nationalities that may register and want to represent their service or location. I did notice the same drawback though and found it is best to search by the lowest common denominator such as "US" or "Navy" or "Guard" rather then "US Navy" or "Coast Guard". This same logic would apply to the location field as well were "CA" would most likely return better results then "California".
