SECOND INDOCHINA WAR:
September 14, 1965 (Year of the Snake [At Ti]) (US Defense): 1 RAR and the US 173rd Brigade start Operation 11/65, Bien Cat I, a brigade search-and-destroy operation, 1 RAR being a maneuver element of the US 173rd Brigade, with the brigade AO being about 275 square km of undulating terrain that is mainly jungle in the southwest, clear forest in the center, and a mixture of vegetation in the northeast. It is a pro-VC area north and northwest of Bien Cat that sits between the VC routes east-west between War Zone C and War Zone D and the Iron Triangle southwest of Bien Cat and contains possibly more than 1 VC main force division. Results: 1 RAR: own: KIA 1,WIA 5; VC: KIA 12, wounded/escaped 5, prisoners 4, 20 camps or defensive positions located-some destroyed, one homemade plant for making ammunition destroyed, three weapons captured. 173rd Brigade: VC. KIA 46, prisoners 80, 9000 documents and half a tonne of medical supplies recovered, 23 camps destroyed or marked for later air strikes.

September 14, 1966 (Year of the Horse [Binh Ngo]) (US Counteroffensive Phase II): The 196th Light Infantry Brigade starts Operation Attleboro with an airmobile assault of a single battalion into a generally rectangular area 20 km wide by 60 km long located east and north of Tay Ninh city. The assault is followed by a search-and-destroy operation that only stirs up two contacts with the enemy over the next three to four days.

September 14, 1989 (Year of the Snake [Ky Ti]): After spending the first eight months of the year in counter-insurgency sweeps and training the PRK army, navy and air force, most PAVN occupation forces begin the withdrawal from Cambodia (Kampuchea) when units of PAVN 5 Naval Region evacuate by sea from Kompong Som to Phu Quoc Island.
