PREBELLUM:
September 1945 (Year of the Rooster [At Dau]): Saigon police clash with Trotskyites, and in the rural areas fighting breaks out between Viet Minh troops and those of Cao Dai and Hoa Hoa. Spreading violence makes it impossible to draw together the Vietnamese factions, and the French ask General Gracey to permit them to step in to restore order.

SECOND INDOCHINA WAR:
September 19, 1964 (Year of the Dragon [Giap Thin]) (US Advisory): During the night of September 19-20, the Rhade Montagnard in five CIDG camps in II Corps--Buon Mi Ga, Buon Sar Pa, Bu Prang, Ban Don, and Buon Brieng-disarm and restrict their US advisers, and rebel against the South Vietnamese government. At Bu Prang, they kill 15 of their Vietnamese leaders and later kill 17 Popular Forces soldiers and two civilians at a nearby Popular Forces post. The Buon Sar Pa Mobile Strike Force with help from Bu Prang kills 11 Vietnamese Special Forces troops at their camp, seizes the district headquarters at Dak Mil, and advances on Ban Me Thuot, the province capital. Two hundred Vietnamese civilians are rounded up and held at the Buon Sar Pa camp. The CIDG force at Ban Don binds and gags their Vietnamese Special Forces advisers and marches on Ban Me Thuot. The camp at Buon Brieng, although requested to do so, does not join in the uprising-mainly as a result of the actions of the U.S. Special Forces detachment commander, Captain Vernon P. Gillespie.

September 19, 1967 (Year of the Goat [Dinh Mui]) (US Counteroffensive Phase III): Operation Bolling begins in Phu Yen Province.

September 19, 1968 (Year of the Monkey [Mau Than]) (US Counteroffensive Phase V): C Company 3 RAR begins a Route 2 security operation in the Ngai Giao area.

September 19, 1971 (Year of the Boar [Tan Hoi]) (US Consolidation I): Operation Ivanhoe update: 1 ATF intelligence reports the possible re-entry of elements of the 33rd North Vietnamese Regiment into Phuoc Tuy Province north of Duc Thanh. 3 RAR redeploys to the area west of old Fire Support Base Ziggie and Operation Mount Torrens concludes after only 48 hours duration. 1 ATF mounts Operation Ivanhoe to counter the threat of a major build-up in the northeast sector of Phuoc Tuy Province. 3 RAR blocks along the eastern edge of the area of interest, with 4 RAR/NZ (ANZAC) Battalion sweeping towards the 3 RAR company positions. Fire Support Base Maree is established 1000 meters to the west of old Fire Support Base Ziggie.

September 19, 1972 (Year of the Rat [Nham Ty]) (US Cease-Fire): Nguyen Hue/Easter Offensive: The ARVN 1st Division, reinforced with the 51st Regiment, retakes Firebase Veghel in the southwest corner of Thua Thien Province, and the NVA 342B starts to avoid contact with South Vietnamese forces.

POSTBELLUM:
September 19, 1992 (Year of the Monkey [Nham Than]): The Vietnam National Assembly disbands the National Defense Council that played a leading role during the Vietnam War.
