SECOND INDOCHINA WAR:
January 15, 1967 (5th day of the 12th month, Year of the Horse) (US Counteroffensive Phase II): Air strikes against the Hanoi area are resumed after having been suspended since December 1966.

January 15, 1968 (16th day of the 12th month, Year of the Goat [Dinh Mui]) (US Counteroffensive Phase III): Near Dak To, a Company B, 1st Battalion, 69th Armor, 4th Infantry reaction force moves in to aid other elements of the platoon, which is in heavy contact with a battalion-sized North Vietnamese force.

January 15, 1968 (16th day of the 12th month, Year of the Goat)(US Counteroffensive Phase III) (PS&S): Weather is hampering search-and-rescue efforts at the site in Thua Thien Province, I Corps, where a CH-53 crashed into a mountain side with 36 Marines, including the five-man crew, three sailors, one soldier and one civilian employee of the U.S. Army's post exchange system on board.

January 15, 1968 (16th day of the 12th month, Year of the Goat) (US Counteroffensive Phase III): The recovery of a wrecked ACAV south of Blackhorse is reported.

January 15, 1968 (16th day of the 12th month, Year of the Goat)(US Counteroffensive Phase III): Near Dak To, in Kontum Province, A/7/17 Cavalry reports sending its gunships to rescue an armored column that had been ambushed. They break up the ambush and kill 12 NVA.

January 15, 1969 (27th day of the 11th month, Year of the Monkey)(US Counteroffensive Phase VI): During a six-day period in January, the CH-3 Flight based at Udorn evacuates more than 5000 persons in 539 sorties from a village in a war-torn northern Laos that had been cut off.

January 15, 1973 (12th day of the 12th month, Year of the Rat) (US Cease-Fire): President Nixon suspends American military operations against North Vietnam and threatens to cut aid to South Vietnam.

THIRD INDOCHINA WAR:
January 15, 1979(17th day of the 12th month, Year of the Horse): The USSR vetoes a UN Security Council resolution, presented by seven nonaligned states and supported by 13 other members, calling for a ceasefire in the PRK and the withdrawal of all foreign troops. The Soviet ambassador continues to support Vietnamese claims that no Vietnamese troops have taken part in the overthrow of the Phnom Penh regime.

Early 1984 (late Year of the Boar/early Year of the Rat): During its Cambodian occupation, PAVN conducts a major and successful counter-insurgency sweep against the Khmer Rouge along the northern tip of the Tonle Sap Lake, involving over one division, helicopter gunships and pallet-bombing from An-26 transports.
