SECOND INDOCHINA WAR:
October 24, 1965 (Year of the Snake [At Ti]) (US Defense): Battle of Plei Me SF Camp: the 52d Aviation Battalion lifts 400 ARVN Rangers from the 22nd Ranger Battalion along the route of the armed task force en route to relieve the besieged camp to secure likely ambush sites ahead of the task force.
October 24, 1967 (Year of the Goat [Dinh Mui]) (US Counteroffensive Phase III): US Air Force, Navy and Marine aircraft attack North Vietnam's largest air field, Phuc Yen, for the first time. During the strike, the USAF downs its 69th MiG.
October 24, 1968 (Year of the Monkey [Mau Than]) (US Counteroffensive Phase V): Operation Henderson Hill begins in Quang Nam Province.
October 24, 1968 (Year of the Monkey [Mau Than]) (US Counteroffensive Phase V): A team from the 282 AHC supports the 2nd ARVN Division in the Dong Ha area.
October 24, 1969 (Year of the Rooster [Ky Dau]) (US Summer-Fall 1969): Two HH-3s assigned to the 37th ARRS are scrambled from Quang Tri to rescue two downed US pilots in Laos and fly into a "flak trap."
October 1969 (Year of the Rooster [Ky Dau])(US Summer-Fall 1969): Air Force Magazine runs a cover story on American POWs and MIAs in Vietnam, "The Forgotten Americans of the Vietnam War." It will be condensed and reprinted as the lead article in the November 1969 issue of Reader's Digest, as well as read in its entirety on the floor of Congress, and inserted into the Congressional Record on six different occasions.
