There was a stretch of road along Highway 1 near Trang Bang ( that Andy fought thru during 68 Tet ) where many houses and ruins had Rpg hit marks.

This happened about March of 1970 about the time when our last platoon sgt ( E-6 or E-7 ) we ever had Deros'ed out...We were doing a patrol around some little hard spot fire base we were at and I ventured down the road a short way by self. There was a fork in the road and three dead VC or NVA in black pajamas had been laid out at in the fork off to the side. One looked like he had caught an M-79 round in the head that didn't go off, and his brains were exposed.. There were 2 ARVNs standing over him pissing on his brain.....the looked at me and gave me grins which I still remember to this day.....demonic doesn't begin to describe it.

according to Air Force stats, III Corps where I was, had the most Agent Orange dumped on it. I feel like I have something alwyas hanging over my head from this. Where is was sprayed there was always a stand of dead or dying trees, usually near the roads..

This happened maybe in June of 1970 in Cambodia. A shake-and-bake E-5 took out an ambush patrol maybe 100 - 150 yards in front of our tracks. Right at dawn they were all killed at once. The jungle was so thick they had to go down and put their bodies in a cargo net and bring them back over were the tracks were. Some of their blood fell on me and I cursed out loud those who put us there, the ARVNs, and the whole fucking country. I knew at that point we would fail and the whole stinking place would go Communist.

If you could find a lot of empty mortar or arty shell boxes and then fortify it with sandbags, it was as good as it gets..unless u found some scrap PSP metal..

This happened on maybe the second day in Cambodia. We were in joint ops with A Company and possible C Company. We went thru a Cambodian village, and it was immaculate, the villagers were dark skinned, and would bow with their hands clasped, and some would throw us fruit..as soon as our company ( B ) got thru it, all hell broke loose. In no time the Cobra gunships were over head firing rockets. I could see huts flying up in the air from the explosions as we wern't far away. Then came the F-100s. A piece of shrapnel landed on our track and it was real hot. We didn't go back that way, but I am sure there wasn't much left of the village.

The Cambodian people were in a losing situation. All Vietnamese considered them sub human. Then we invaded for 2 months and destroyed everything.....
